    The dextron will clean things up. It will also free up the rings if they are carboned up. Its just something that might work.
    If it's not broke, fix it anyway.

    as has been mentioned you could be sucking the pan dry with all the oil up top... I've had that problem on the highway at sustained revs 3200 pressure starts to dip and get erratic, slow down to 2800 and it stabilizes back to normal. Doesn't sound quite like your situation with it dropping to 0 unless your oil level is pretty low to begin with or pickup to pan spacing too far or debris covering pickup or pickup came loose... all have been mentioned here. I think you need to pull the pan and see what's going on in there.
