400 chevy combo what will it do?
Hi Guys and girls ive just bought a shiny lump of 400 chevy metal for my 79 trans am to liven th old girl up but im wondering if i have the right engine for me.
Does any one know what driveability is going to be like for this combination
its as follows
400 standard bore not sure of piston or rods if we assume standard bottom end it has afr aly heads with a edelbrock air gap rpm manifold an edelbrock 750 carb and the cam is a solid lifter comp cam max street recommended cam grind no 294s ive put all the info in a cam quest program and it suggests a 3000 plus torque convertor ,thats the worrying thing i want this for street use and having never driven anything other than a stock convertor have i bought an engine thats going to be a pig to drive on the street any one any ideas on how it might drive.I was just hoping for something that would fry tyres and go like stink but still bumble along at 2000rpm.
thanks
