Are carter carbs very good carbs I have never herd of them. I am looking at a carter 9635S.

Edlebrock/Carter, basically the same carb. Edlebrock bought Carter out a few years ago. I believe what you have is a basic Carter AFB and without a book handy I can't tell you what the intended application for that number carb was.

625 CFM, performance carb for Chevy 350.

I have-have had several of them. I like them. If you get them set up right, you don't have to touch them. (I suppose the same could be said for other types though) Sometimes they can be a little touchy about crud in the needle and seats, but if you have a good filter, that shouldn't be a problem.

(you didn't ask, but it the following is good info) I use needle and seat assemblies from daytonaparts.com, they're not like the conventional rebuild kit parts, they have a broader "seat" area that is more forgiving to "crud"

I suppose your intended use/application would play a part in your carburetor choice.....

The AFBS were great and so were the AVS carbs...I was never impressed by the thermoquads,they were crap...

They have been around for a little while. Chevy used them on a few million of their engines in the '50s and '60s. These were "WCFB"s (white cast four barrel) and "AFB"s (aluminum four barrel), used on both 283-327 small blocks, and the 348-409 engines. Often they were on the high performance versions, like the 409 dual quad engines. Yes they were pretty good.

trouble free -- leak free -- just be careful of fuel pressure .. the needles blow off the seats very easy ..

the good ones were on stright 8 packards---1 3/16 venturis whereas the chevs were 1 1/16
