Edlebrock/Carter, basically the same carb. Edlebrock bought Carter out a few years ago. I believe what you have is a basic Carter AFB and without a book handy I can't tell you what the intended application for that number carb was.Ken Thomas

I have-have had several of them. I like them. If you get them set up right, you don't have to touch them. (I suppose the same could be said for other types though) Sometimes they can be a little touchy about crud in the needle and seats, but if you have a good filter, that shouldn't be a problem.
(you didn't ask, but it the following is good info) I use needle and seat assemblies from daytonaparts.com, they're not like the conventional rebuild kit parts, they have a broader "seat" area that is more forgiving to "crud"
I suppose your intended use/application would play a part in your carburetor choice.....Last edited by 65ny; 02-26-2009 at 07:40 AM.

The AFBS were great and so were the AVS carbs...I was never impressed by the thermoquads, they were crap...I remember when hot rods were all home made.

They have been around for a little while. Chevy used them on a few million of their engines in the '50s and '60s. These were "WCFB"s (white cast four barrel) and "AFB"s (aluminum four barrel), used on both 283-327 small blocks, and the 348-409 engines. Often they were on the high performance versions, like the 409 dual quad engines. Yes they were pretty good.
