This might be the Camshaft you have . 14097395 Hydraulic Roller Design
This hydraulic roller design is used on the 383 truck. The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 288/308; duration at .050” tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 196/206; and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 431/451. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 109 degrees.Wisdom is acquired by experience, not just by age

Back 20 some years ago when I worked in Farwell, Mi.
I'd have guy's come in with stuff they wanted built.
Stuff was never what they thought it was.
A guy brought in a cam for a chevy, the cam end up being for a
Ford and the springs were for a Dodge, I don't remember what the
lifters were for. Kurt

i have guys drop off stuff and say make it work .just another one of them deals were i am going to use this roller cam i have come up with . then take money out of my labor to buy him a new roller cam . this cam is the best i can find for him cheap. he has lost two flat lifter hyd cams and i am not going to re build this engine and hear that he s wipe a cam out of a engine i built him .they built it the first time and had some bad machine work done they did just about every thing you could do wrong on it .i feel they can not break in a new flat lifter cam if i put one in it so it a rollerLast edited by pat mccarthy; 04-27-2009 at 08:57 PM.

Scoggins-Dickey has a good listing of them. I used a GM roller cam that I bought from them called the Ram Jet roller cam in a TBI rebuild and was really happy with the results. I think it was about $200.

I have never had a lobe go flat on any cams I've installed over the years.
Guess I better knock on wood, But I've allways used plenty of cam lube,
run 10/30 for break in's and packed the oil pump with vaseline.
I did a cam for my Ex-father in law one time, sent him down to
the parts store with a exact list on the stuff to get.
He came back with all kinds of mismatched stuff, the guy said it was
on sale so he bought it. The guy was just trying to get rid of the stuff he
had, I wanted to go down there and pull the guy over the counter because I
had talked to the guy. Anyway I had to retard the cam by three teeth on the timming
chain to get it where it was supposed to be. Something must have fallen down
in the engine [piece of gasget or junk] because with in a week it wipe the main bearings out. He gave me the truck at 5pm on friday night, by 2am the engine was back in the truck and on the road headed for a car show in Illnois hauling a french fri stand.
Would have been done sooner but broke a main cap bolt and had to stop and go get a new one. And he made his 10 am starting time too!!! Kurt

i still use flat cams in some engines and long block them if i know they will get broke in right. but i have seen more then one wipe over the years. the last two engine in my shop wipe a flat lifter cam and i rebuilt them and went roller. i will not build a bbc with one in it. the kits are not that bad over the cost of picking junk out of the piston skrits and rebuilding the engine one more time i use strat wt oil to break the ringsLast edited by pat mccarthy; 04-27-2009 at 09:31 PM.

My cleveland was a pain to set up for a roller cam.
I had to go in and grind the XXX's off the oil galley wall.
The roller lifters would have gotten snagged on them.
