283 with cammel hump heads?
I have a 63' C10 that from the engine casting number reads that it is a 283, and its got 3890462 casting number heads. I read some where that bigger valves in these heads dont exactly fit with the small bore of the 283. What am I looking at?

It's been a few decades since I did much SBC motor work, but I think it requires notching the top of the cylinders for valve clearance, if you have the 202 intake valves, but you'd better check it out with someone more knowledgeable. You may also have to have a large port intake.

The heads are on the engine, the engine runs???? What's your question??? That little 283 belongs in a nice, lightweight car with a manual transmission and deep gears, not trying to lug some big old truck around.... Takes torque to haul heavy weights.....a 283 just doesn't make much.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I would sell those heads and buy a set of 305 heads. They will fit a 283 and breathe very well. You don't need 2.02 valves in a 283. They will lose you a lot of torque.

Not all 461 or 462 heads were 2.02/1.6.
1.94/1.5 were standard. 1.94 will work fine on your 283.
