    Hey Guys,

Has anyone dealt with a mail order company by the name of Performance Automotive Warehouse Inc. in California ?

    Are they a reputable company?

They've been around for years....Haven't bought from them in quite awhile, seem to get better shipping from Summit and Speedway..... Maybe they've improved, shipping used to be a bit high, and kind of slow!!!!

My experience with PAW pretty much mirrors Dave's. I bought quite a bit of stuff from them years ago, and in fact still have one of their cams sitting on a shelf. Came in a plain white box, but with a Crane timing card inside, so guess who made that one for them. Cam and lifters were like $ 89.00 as I recall. Bought other stuff too, never had a problem. But a while ago I decided to try them again and found their telephone help less than friendly and helpful. In fact, it verged on being pretty rude. So I went to my usual source, Summit.

For my money Summit is hard to beat. We have had some occasions to return parts due to shipping damage or error, and they have always done it cheerfully while issuing a full credit. They even sent us some gift certificates to make up for a problem we had with a TCI transmission we bought, and they certainly had no obligation to do so as it was about 6 months old.

But aside from the recent unpleasantness I got on the phone from PAW I can't say anything bad about them really.

I agree, Summit is hard to beat, but I've also bought a "white box" cam and lifter kit from PAW. The specs were identical. (or very near, I don't remember) to the cam that Edelbrock matches with their performer manifold. I did all of my shopping on-line, and didn't have to deal with any people, but I was completely satisfied with the purchase, and the price couldn't be beat anywhere else.

I gave up on PAW with their very slow shipping. On my last 351W I bought my valves (white box Manley SS) and springs as well as a few more parts from them for about half of anyone elses price - but slooooooow shipping. Then Summit - I placed an order yesterday and the FEDEX website says out for delivery today.

If you have time, PAW can be a real money saver, but I need the Summit stuff NLT tomorrow, but today is better yet

I had good luck with them. I've used a few of their SSI brand cams with good results. They do have a really cool catalog but I think you have to pay about 7 bux for it. They carry some neat stuff, like a good selection of Offy intakes with off the wall carb configurations. Lately I've gravitated to either Summit, Jegs, or Northern Auto Parts for most of my stuff, but would still use PAW if they had what I needed at the right price.

I like them ,but I am 30 minutes from them and can pick up the parts in person or drive another hour to the main shop to avoid shipping.......

I haven't purchased anything from them in well over 10 years. But they were a big help when rebuilding my Olds 371 in the early 90's. New parts for that engine were difficult to find at that time and they had the rebuild kits that were needed. If I remember well, they were a bit slow, but at that time there was no big rush on my part.

Have bought from PAw and thier shipping prices and time is horrible. Hard to beat Summit as other have stated for inventory and thier delivery is very fast. BUT.....I try to use Competiton products over Summit when I can. Smaller Company, been around a long long time. And if you have questions about for example heads, or cam etc your not talking to a guy reading notes from a catalog description which usually happens with Summit..your talking to only a handful of people who are enthusiasts and at the track tuning and running thier cars too. Just what i do but have stopped buying from PAw all together.
