Engine Swap
Just getting ready for the Street Rod Nationals next weekend. Cranked up the truck to move it to the wash rack and the old 327 (stock original) sounds like it bit the dust, A bunch of rattling and metal sounds. Looked at the top sides and all looks OK oiling, no visible damage and tight.
No time to fix it now, I need to drop a new engine in.
Question: What all will fit? Given an option what's the best value and most buildable block.
Engine sets in a 1966 Chev C10 with a 700r4. I have a custom 3" stainless exhaust system bolted to a set of ceramic headers and do not think I have time to modify before the show. So I need a pretty good fit.
Thanks in advance

Budget dictates - anything from a period correct 327 to a full tilt boogie 383 crate motor will pretty much bolt in. Remember if you want to do less than a full engine that your 66 has a short water pump and as I recall, the oil fill tube is in the front of the intake. Also consider the mounting holes on the front the heads to me sure all of your accessories will be compatible.
How Fun!

IMO the Goodwrench basic crate engine is a super deal. Used to sell for $ 1300 range, but I think now they are up around $ 1800. Still a deal. If you want, slip in a mild cam and bolt on your old manifold, headers, etc. Even comes with a warranty.
I installed one in a guys vette a while back and it was the easiest, cleanest swap I ever did. No fussing with a dirty junkyard block and/or rebuilding the old engine.

Here, I just looked on line. This is only one place, if you shop you may find a better deal yet.
