Thread: Crate Engine Opinions

We normally get our crate marine engines from a local company but our parts department for some reason recently bought a crate 454 from Eagle Engine Sales in Chicago. Biggest mistake we ever made. That was the one that wouldn't pump oil to the rockers. We hand delivered it back to their Lakeland Florida location and they shipped it back to Chicago for evaluation.
10 days later and with tons of promises, we still don't have a replacement. Plus, they are trying to tell us the one we sent back had no problems. (you guys who said they would never admit anything were right! ) So instead of them paying us for the trouble we had removing all the accessories from the engine to ship it back, they wanted US to pay them for checking it out on their end.
Last straw was that they "guaranteed they would ship the motor back to us by this past Wednesday or refund our money. I called them Thursday for a tracking number and it still hasn't gone out and they refuse to refund our money. Plus, now they tell us they assemble these engines there, so these aren't even the crate GM motors we thought we were getting!
So if anyone is ever thinking of buying a motor from:

PM me and I'll give you the full lousy story! Worst company we have dealt with for a long long time.

the wheel is in the front timming cover you need a vtech block or put the throw a way .front cover. timing set reluctor wheel.and the damper hub many be shorter? i never tried to used the vetech stuff on the old roller one pc seal block then front cover may not be the same shape ??.i would use the PBM heads if you need the 8 bolt intake .the newer blocks cores may be hard to find? crank is the same as the old one pc seal crank engineLast edited by pat mccarthy; 08-28-2009 at 08:21 PM.

Thanks Jerry. Very strange that you are a hot rodder and never even heard of these guys. They must really be fly by night. Be interesting to see what you see.
Our guys drove the old engine back to their Lakeland Florida location and they said it was just an old warehouse hidden by the airport in Lakeland. They were not impressed with what they saw. Our parts dept has their tails between their legs on this one.
