1989 350 2-bolt tbi block from 1500 truck...???
Anyone know of any combinations that suit this engine? Anyone ever happened to rebuild one of these up... I have one that has just been magnafluxed, align honed, bored to .30 over and new brass plugs cam bearings, etc...
1. Is 350hp possible with this engine
2. Can I throw a carburetor on it just by changing the intake manifold??
3. Also, I was thinking about some vortec heads??
Any thoughts are welcome, thanks fellow hotrodders, btw, this engine is for a '71 chevy truck...thanks.

what numbers ?if you use the TBI you have to run a small cam need to idle low for the computer to work K code.if you going carb there is many cams to pick thru the heads are the PBM heads for the 87 intake and not vtech you can get them both ways you can build it like any sbc 350 hp should not be hard with the vtech headsLast edited by pat mccarthy; 09-26-2009 at 09:59 PM.

I take it your using the engine only and not the TBI set up? If so you will easily make 350hp with a cam and head change. You can achieve what you want with the stock TBI heads but they will probably be limited/struggling to make 350hp and by the time you got them work on you could of got you a better set of heads to reach you up to 400 hp. TBI heads SUCK ,or really dont suck , air flow is restricted. I use the TBI set up for staying at low rpm and low end torque, I got a heavy vehicle that sees a lot of idle time and probably never above 4000 RPM. If you just want to start your build with a "TBI" short block , the TBI really means nothing. Its a great SBC block.Friends dont let friends drive fords!

yep there is many ways to go and all have been done i would start with a hyd roller cam the block is set up for that. go with a vtech head and cam would have to do with RPM range and every thing would fall in place base off the RPM intake CR cam EX and $$$$Irish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
