428ci ?
OK guy's need alittle help here, I just purchased a mixed bag of engine parts that was said that was bought for one engine years ago and has been sitting in a cellar so here's what I got. Bowtie 400 block never been used, Ohio 4340 4" stroke 400 crank, 6" rod's, Ross 4.125 flat top pistons(99466)and a set of Bodix M2 Track 1 227cc heads, The person told me it was a 434 he thought but the best I can come up with is a 428 which I'm not complaining but the comp I'm not sure of because the heads are 68cc heads and I was wanting somewhere around 12.5-13.5 and I don't think these piston's will get me there. I'm trying to get 700+hp. Any help on what cam I'll be needing.

well they call it 427 but you can call it a 428 if you want its 427.6 i did a fast look and with what you have you should be it 12.8 OR SO with 64 cc so you could trim the heads for abit more .but theres is things like were the deck is ? and head gaskets for cc will add to CR more or lessIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Thank's alot for the info, this stuff was all together and real good stuff and I didn't want to buy more piston's. The heads are rated for .700 lift roller and was wondering if I could cam it up to the hp level I'm trying too get? I mudd race and with those big tires I was wanting all I can get out of this set up of parts. Thank's again

yep i machined and built mud runners engines alot of bbc .you can cam it if the flow numbers are good up there at 700 .but i would cool that abit on lift less you like buying valve springs . your going to be looking at a small base cam core. i would work on getting as much cr you can get with what you have as for 700 HP ? well every thing would have to be right on them heads will need some work . i am thinking along with a good intakeLast edited by pat mccarthy; 10-11-2009 at 07:31 PM.

you mean @ 700 lift ? i would look at a head that flows better. for your hp numbers your trying to get like 382 @700 and 274 @700 or better like 392 @700 and 270 @ 700..you may get close or not with what you have your going to need 1050 and a pro re work intakeLast edited by pat mccarthy; 10-11-2009 at 07:52 PM.

Got all the parts to the motor man and he looked everything over and he came up with about the same as Pat came up with a solid 600hp maybe alittle more. Going with a Super Victor 4500 with a welded 2" spacer then he's going to port the intake he said that should help things flow with the 1050 Dominator. Never built one of this level with the after market block and parts are way up there but it will be a solid build so it will be worth it.
