    Reverse rotation water pump conversion

    Hi all,
My first post. I'm installing a GM V6 into my 52 willys truck. Space forward of the block is at a premium to keep from having to notch the crossmember.

I have an 89 4.3L TBI engine, that I need to convert from a serpentine belt to a V-belt with a short shaft water pump. I have all the parts necessary, but was wondering if I will have cooling issues due to the intake being originally set up for a reverse rotation pump.
It is my understanding that the intake manifold gasket has a certain water port blocked off to allow for the reverse rotation. If I switch to the older style pump that spins CW, won't the water circulate backward inside the block? This may or may not be a problem, but would like to know what I'm up against before I go any further.

The only thing that is reverse flow is the water pump because the belt runs over it the other way. Everything is normal, the water still runs the same way, only the pump runs reverse. You need not change anything except the pump & pulleys to run the V-belt.

Anyone can cut one up, but! only some can put it back together looking cool!
Steel is real, anyone can get a glass one.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was told by a mechanic to check into it, because he wasn't 100% if the water flow thru the engine reversed also, and was afraid I'd overheat.

I have the crank pulley, the water pump pulley, fan, belt, brand new long shaft water pump and the pass. side alt. mount/tensioner. I purchased the brackets from a salvage yard for $75. It was the only game in town, and I know it was too much, but bought it anyway. The water pump came from AutoZone for $40.

Since then, I found a free V-belt setup complete, that is on a carburated 4.3L
It uses the long water pump also, so I don't want to use it. I purchased a new short pump, and found a set of matching single groove pulleys. I ordered a set of alt. mounts for the SS pump, pre 69. This should complete my bracket needs hopefully.

Figured I would keep it just in case. If I run into cooling problems and have to end up using electric fans, then I might as well switch to the serpentine belt and long shaft pump.
