Okay, so for testing purposes let's say I want to run a wire directly from my battery to my HEI Distributor. I could run a wire directly from the positive terminal to the "batt" terminal on my distributor correct?

If this is a points set-up then either the wire is resisted or you have a resister on the firewall some place. But yes, to just check it out you could you could run the wire from the battery for a short time to test it
