I have a 355 short block in my garage that I am wanting to finish in the next 4 weeks to drop into my 1980 El Camino. I was going to go put this motor into my 63 wagon with a LT4 roller Hot Cam and Vortec heads but decided to just get a roller crate motor for that car instead and use this in the 80 Elky and pull the junk 267 out. Anyways I have a choice between two heads right now from 2 friends. One has a set of 1972 3250 heads that are fresh out of the machine shop with springs, lifters, etc but no rockers. The other one has 290HP crate motor heads (casting number is 462264) complete with pushrods, springs, self align NON roller rockers, etc. The 72 heads are $200 but need rockers and the 290HP crate heads are $300.
Any ideas which are better?
I plan to run a basic torque type street (RV/Towing) cam with 450 lift in this engine so nothing major. I am wanting to build a good and reliable street motor but still have some balls to get up and go instead of it being a dog like the motor in it is now.
Thanks for any info or opinions guys!
