    Which Spark plug?

    I'm running a 1966? Chev. 327 W/ I believe mid seventies unleaded heads,
    mild cam and a Mallory Unilite electronic distributor and Mallory coil. I want to make sure I am using the right sparkplug. At the moment I'm using Autolite AP 145. I'm not sure if I should match plugs w/ engine year or year of heads? The engine is installed in a 2600# Model A Coupe. Thanks for any imput.

    I don't know if you will get some one on here to tell you what spark plug to run if you don't know for sure what heads or piston, is in the motor.
    You can't say, I believe it's this head, you have to know for sure what head and if the motor has pop up pistons or not. Kurt

    Really? we need that many details? because I was just going to post the same question, we need sparkplugs for a rebuilt 427, it's a 454 block with factory rectangular port heads, I know very little about it.

    but I thought it would just be easy, do we run stock plugs or do the fancy plugs of various types produce better horsepower.

    Actually Honeywell manufactures the Motorcraft plugs for Ford as they do Autolite Plugs....joe

    I'm just wondering if regular run of the mill plugs are fine or if the bosch platinum or other split fire plugs etc. give more power/fuel efficiency. I will be careful though to get manufacturer specific plugs.

    I had a guy sell me some spark plugs one time for a open chamber head when I had a closed chamber head I turned the motor over by hand and it stoped.
    The piston came up and hit the spark plug, needless to say I gave that guy a ear full.
    I had told him exactly what I had and he still got it wrong, So yes I think it is important to know exactly what you are running.

    Personally I run only Motorcraft or Autolite plugs in all of my old stuff and have been for over 30yrs & am very very pleased w/them.
    I get the best mileage and the best use out of them then any other plug I have tried.
    I will NEVER us AC or Champion in anything old I own because of the poor workmanship I have seen in them such as Electrodes off centered, Electrodes either too deep in or to far out & have even had the ceramic break off when installing or removing them.
    Now if it is a late model car/truck I install I will install a factory type plug regardless of the make of the plug. I learn that lesson years ago & found that if I used anything else they didn't last but a year or so...joe

    Toomany2count and Hoss429;
    I am right there with you guys on that, I had problems with fouling out too.
    So many many years ago I started using Autolite and my fouling out problems disappeared. And thats all I've ever used since then.
