Lots of fellows still believe it is economical to rebuild these OEM cast iron heads. I disagree.
Boil 'em out to clean 'em
Magnaflux for cracks
New valve guides
New valves
New springs, retainers, keepers.
New guide seals
Valve job
Take a cut on the surfaces to true 'em up
Pull pressed in studs
Cut stud bosses for guide plates
Tap for screw-in studs
Install guide plates
Install hard seats in older heads (pre-70's)
No accessory bolt holes in older heads
Porting
And now, you have all this money tied up in old technology, plus, if the heads were not ported by a professional who knows what he is doing, they could end up flowing worse than they did stock.
Nawwww, save up a few more Shekels and buy a new set, ready to go out of the box with proven performance from state-of-the-art technology.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.
