valve spring question
i have 3 seperate sets of heads right now 1 of each generation (87-95, and a pair of vortecs). i need to get my truck on the road and i'm running out of budget. i need to know if i can use the springs from either set of the later heads to replace the springs on my first gen heads as they're shot
Edit: i should mention that all the springs are stock style not edelbrock or anything nice lol

what head are you going to use ? v tec s springs are not the same older springs. older set have damper and the set up height is not the same . new springs are not that much 30.00 to 50.00 bucks you can just shim the old springs a with some VSI spring shims a 060 should work but if the valves been banging they beat the seats out then they cup the intake valves and beat in the seat s sure you do not need more then just springs ??? i have seen many of the V heads crack under the valve seat and run down in the bowl .you need to do abit of work to get the v tec heads to fit. a older intake is not a bolt on dealLast edited by pat mccarthy; 07-01-2010 at 07:49 PM.

well thats not much help theres no way to say what you can used or have if there not stock springs .if you have no way to check the set up height and the lbs is at set up then there is open lbs then there the outer
i.d of spring sounds like you should take them and have a machine shop.have them set up so yes you could have problems if you can not checking any of this. they are not a stock spring who knows ? i set heads up all the time you need to start out knowing your cam lift and what it needs for seat and open lbs and what the spring part number is nice but you still need to know what is open and close with a spring tester . were you can set the spring up at in the head with hard ware you have. will it coil bind is the spring I.D OR O.D going to hit. will the head need the spring pockets cut ?can they be cut ? get this wrong you can hit water junk a set of heads will the spring hit valve seals will retainers work can you get the setup were you need it. V heads need a spring made for the o.d and i.d for that head will your springs work like i said you need to check them for O.D I.D setup LBS and openLBS and coil bind and shim if set up is loose or if you shim or use a 050+ or 050- lock or retainer .this is just a startLast edited by pat mccarthy; 07-04-2010 at 05:19 PM.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
