Well, you have to understand that the employees at most of these places aren't exactly paid enough to attract people who have the kind of experience it takes to know all the questions that we throw at them. They are essentially parts checkers and not automotive experts. But it is frustrating to shop at these places and need help, I understand only too well.

Now, what you need to get that Chevy to run on a carb is essentially get it down to a long block and treat it just as if it came with a carb instead of injection to start with. The intake will need to be changed as well as adding the carb. The fuel pump will need to be changed out for one made for a carb. I think you can use the same distributor, but not sure about the wiring hookup.

I did a similar deal when I swapped a 5.0 Ford engine into my Jeep pickup, but my engine had no provision for a fuel pump so I ran an electric pump. I also put in an aftermarket Unilite distributor, and didn't have to deal with the stock wiring setup at all.

You may find it tough to find a stock 4 barrel intake for the Vortec as most were injected. I could be wrong on that, but do know that lots of Mercruiser, OMC, Volvo marine engines were vortecs with 4 barrel intakes. I would just buy a $ 100 aluminum intake and go with that.

    Don

Here is a typical aluminum intake for the vortec, from Summit. About $ 129.00. Vortecs have 8 bolts and the earlier ones have 12, so they don't fit ( at least without some modifications..........don't get involved with those)
