    Marine 350

Hi, I recently got a 350 sbc on a trade. I know the engine is fresh from the shop, but that is it.
It is a marine block, so I don't know which way it rotates . I'll get some numbers off the block and all that, but how can I tell if it rotates the right way? (I don't have an intake or a carb for it). Can anyone point me to a forum to find out?

    thanks a bunch!

Look at the timing chain. If it is a conventional rotation it will have a timing chain like you are used to seeing. If it has gears that spin the cam in the opposite direction of the crank, it is reverse rotation. Also, if you have the heads off, if the arrows on the pistons point forward it is standard rotation, if they point back it is reverse rotation.

You're welcome. FYI I ran a marine 350 engine in my 23. Even the cam profile isn't all that bad on the street, peaks out at about 4600 rpms, but has lots of torque down low. But all the regular car stuff fits if you want to go that direction.

Another question for you, is there any difference in the oiling system? I heard something about the main cap trq specs being diff?

Not to my knowledge. The rear and maybe even the front seal is different. They have the grooves going the opposite way to sling oil back into the pan with the engine running backwards. If you use that seal in a normally rotating engine it will sling the oil OUT of the pan.
