There's an online place called Turbo City that sells a lot of mod parts for stock GM fuel injection. I bought a few things from them when we put EFI in my son's 69 Chevy truck. If you're set on using the stock EFI you may want to check out their site.

I don't think your stock fuel injection will provide those kind of numbers.

I read the link above. The comment I am going to make some will agree and some will not. These magazine test builds have one and only one purpose. To sell products that bought ad's in the magazine.Over the yrs I have had suspicions about hidden facts involving the products that were used.I would guess you do as well asking for advise.Well in part anyways. As a example I think I read the EQ heads are another import where I have researched some to find serious issues for the end user, you.I admit I haven't see much on the EQ's beyond ad's in engine builder.com.But that would make me wait and see what comes out of that. The other big thing from the link I see is you would have to have a bottom end not needing much more than a hone and go.

So guys come on this site and ones like it,to verify results with real street experiences with guys like Pat,Richard,Dave, and Jerry. And justifiable so because of the history of the articles found in the magazines.I would think the four guys I have listed from this site and others too, could generate the same output with any number of combos and at same costs.Their parts build lists, short of having one of them build the engine, are free without any attachments to ads.I is that, makes the suggestions much cleaner deal over a magazines test article.

So here is the bottom line suggestion.Read the supplied links I have left for fuel injections and read between the lines on magazines articles on tests of products picking threw parts to use that have a long term problem free results.

If the engine has vortec heads & tbi then someone has built it that way. G.M. did not make a throttle body injected vortec engine. G.M. sells a aftermarket tbi manifold for vortec heads, part # 12496821. It is kinda expensive at $385 to $425 depending on where you buy it. You can also use a regular vortec intake & install a adapter plate for the tbi. If you are set on using the tbi it can be done but you will have match the parts together. You can use a throttle body from a 454 it has bigger throttle plates. But that has its own set of problems. G.M. used a couple of different injectors for the same throttle body. You will also have to mill the throttle openings on the intake to fit the larger throttle body.

I'm sure it's stock. I don't know if it's tbi. I'm not sure where the tbi conversation came from. What kind of fuel injection is on the vortec motors?

Thanks everyone. Based on those links you gave me, Gary, I found a very helpful tbi reprogram guy. I've got it narrowed down to seeing if I can get a ls1 complete and have it support this power, or I'm just gonna run a qjet.
It's just crazy stupid expensive to make the system I've got work with high performance.
I've read all rave reviews on offroading with a qjet.
My only scare is a few people have told me that you have to mess with them all the time. Clifford, the qjet master, says properly set up, you don't have to touch them for years.
does anyone know, is this the case with carbs? even if you go into the moutains or major altitude changes?

Honestly I don't want to come off sounding as a jerk with this comment. But my question to you is don't you think with major altitude changes learning the skill of tuning comes along with the territory no matter which you go with??.

Wanted to add this in for your consideration.I suggest with fuel injection and off roading, you don't have to be concerned with floats having a truck at many different angles.Be deductive I would think injectors would have it's advantages.Tuning wise, all you need is laptop.

Sorry it's been so long since I've been on here, I went back to Iowa to visit family, blah, blah, lbah, blah. Anyway, I saw your comments quickly right before I left, and after a week of thinking on it, it really hit me how dumb I have been! You are totally right. I'm talking about this huge project where I'm already over my head, and I've been focusing on tuning the stupid thing.
    Thanks,
Also, thanks to your tbi link, that guy has actually convinced me that a LS / Gen III motor I think is the way to go. I can get them for about the same deal if I'm patient, and the fuel injection will totally support the build I want. When I add up the numbers, it looks like it will be less expensive, AND I'll get the injection .
Now, I have to look at learning about gen III motors, .....
