that would be awesome, but this motor is in fantastic shape, so I really don't want to spend the money to stroke it, even though I would love to.
AND since I have the factory fuel injection, I would like to use it if possible.

Small block Chevy, 4.030" X 3.750"
6.000" rods. Scat makes a nice cast STEEL crank for use with 6" rods. Use a 400 damper and 400 flexplate for external balancing. Balance will need to be fine tuned at your machine shop.

Use an Edelbrock 7101 or Weiand 8150 with 600/650 carb.

Use long-tube, equal-length 1 3/4" headers of your choice. And by the way, if the headers don't fit exactly on your application, use a Sawzall or cutting torch to cut away whatever is in the way, then weld the parts back in with altered pieces after you get the headers in. NOTHING SHOULD EVER GET IN THE WAY OF FITTING HEADERS. NEVER DENT OR TRY TO BEND A PIPE TO MAKE THEM FIT.

This motor needs to be in a pickup truck with a 3.73 gear and a 2000 stall converter. It should rip the tires off in all gears stoplight to stoplight on pump gas. It would be ok with the stock converter and stock gear, I just think that to optimize the combo, it should have gears and converter. I see no reason this same combo wouldn't work with EFI. I know that normally, cams for EFI are ground with a wider LSA, so that would be something you would want to discuss with the cam grinder. Getting to this enormous torque at low rpm's required me to use a very short LSA.Last edited by techinspector1; 12-11-2010 at 03:52 PM.

I suggest you couldn't use the stock fuel injection with out mods.It's kind of the reason behind the link I left for you.In that are companies that do use some of the stock parts that have been mod'ed.
I too would love to be able to afford a Edelbrock system.But I am convinced a EFI system can be had and effective for a 383 reasonably.That it worth the effort for the benefits it offers over carbs.
One tip I can give you is to be careful buying old Edelbrock systems that are not supported by them any longer.The other one is the Fast Systems is everytime I looked at that is seemed to get a complete system,it nickeled/dime you to the same costs or more than the ones that sold a complete system in the first place.
