    Chevy heads

I read that head casting #14102190 is a poor design head for performance and the problem begins around the 4200 - 4500 RPM mark with it being a "swirl" head. Here is my situation, I received a rebuilt marine engine (350cid 260 HP) with these heads. Do you think any problems will arise? I'm running a carter 4bbl (stock Mercruiser intake/carb) and dont really run the motors over 4000 RPM's.
    Thanks for any input, Paul

I would try it first and see how it performs before making any modifications.

Im not looking to do any mods. I'm just looking to see if these heads are good to run with a carb setup in my boat application.

Precisely. The 350/260 hp Mercruiser/ Volvo is one of the most popular recreational engines out there, and made to peak out at 4600 rpms, just exactly what you are seeking. You generally cruise at about 75% full throttle anyway (about 3000-3500 rpms) so the cam profile and all the other parts were engineered by MC and the others to run economically and perform well at those speeds. I just noticed that you are running a Carter carb, these originally had Quadrajets on them. What intake are you running?

It's a stock GM intake. Mercruiser uses an adaptor plate and runs a Carter 4bbl. It's the stock Mercruiser set-up. Also, I replaced the port side engine last year from a different rebuilder. I hope they perform well together.

It's a 1995 Rinker 280 with twin 5.7's. It's using the OEM Carters which have the Merc service tags on them.
