327 chevy engine
A buddy gave me his 327 chevy engine out of a 64 super sport. Its has a warped cylinder head and since I Don't have access to a milling machine I was wondering if a large belt sander would take enough of the metal off so the head gasket would sealKeep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Oh, it will take enough off to seal and then some, but you'll be worse off than before. If you're going to be jerry rigging like that, you will probably be better off taking a piece of sand paper and sticking it to a perfectly flat surface. Then, slide the head back and forth across the sand paper.

Try it and find out, the most your gonna need is a new or rebuilt set of heads if you screw it up. Try the sander with 160 paper first, then work down until it's perfectly smooth, probably goin to be around 400 grit paper b4 that happens but, If you don't try, ypu will never know if it works or not. Round here some people use masonry bits and drill presses to bore there blocks out but, they don't run 2 good, I wouldent do that though. Use what you got to make the best of what you got.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Actually My friend gave me the 327 to fix. I was going to take it to a machine shop but he asked me if a belt sander would work and I said let me post it which I did. I agree, no belt sander.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Take it to the shop. You would have to do BOTH heads. or you would mess up the compression. And these heads are gettin hard to find. my head #no is 3884520. milled 0.20. Block #no. 3782870.

Send me a $3,000.00 deposit, your right arm, a quart of blood, and a blank check and I'll get muh guys right on it...
I will have the nicest 4x4 truck in my town cause, most of the old 4x4's are rustouts and, I will redo all the interior and, the only body panals in need of replacing are the rockers. What's a good engine combo for a truck with a 74' V8 350 that I want to pump out around 400 ft pnds of torq but I don't care about the Hp's.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Matt i use to be into the big tire 4X4 thing myself awhile back and for a good tourqe 350 i would say a good combo for a 4x4 truck would be.
650 cfm carb
cam with about .480-.500 lift (dont go to big on the duration at .50 since its for a 4x4)
good aluminum dual plan intake
smaller tube headers since your after tourqe
upgrade the ignition to something like a MSD 6AL or such
good true dual exuast with quality mufflers like flowmasters or equal
crossover pipe on the exuast would give a few more ft on the torque curve.
Just make sure that the springs on your different heads will handle a bigger cam and that the piston to valve clerance is gonna be ok.
i'm sure others will have different combos but thats the type of combo i have had on a couple of 4x4 blazers that i use to four wheel with and they ran pretty good.Somewhere out on Woordward ave. cruzin!

Thank you Blowngoat, I don't want big tires, the biggiggist I would go would probably be 31's and, I probably will just use stock size tires. Thank's for the info, now I just gotta figure how much I'll have for the engine and how much for the rest of the truck. I want to do kind of a mixed up resto like, getting dated 1967 timing cover for my 74' Block and 68' " Mark of excellence " sticker for the door jam ( the decal color's are diffrent in 1968 than in 1967 ), the 67' ( my truck ) has an aqua color sticker and the 68' has a dark blue sticker. I want to paint it black with a teal stripe on the side. The teal would go with the dark aqua interior color. I was going to small block a 1983 Mercedes ( shown avatar ) but, the Impala motor I bought won't fit and the only small block that will fit is the Ford 302 and, I want to do this truck now so, next year for the benz. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

C'mon Matt, anything will fit in anything if ya want it in their bad enough!!! Ever seen a Pinto with a 460 in it?? How about an "A" coupe with a Caddy?? Thinks Streets nailed it, somebody done mixed up yer meds again. A guy in Brookings even has a Chevette with a 502 Crate Motor, fits fine with a little trimming.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
