Small block ID.
I have a 350 small block in my truck, and I have no clue on what year it is or anything. I was wondering if I could get some help ID'ing the engine. . Its a 350 corvette small block as far as I know. The engine still sits in the truck, so its a little hard to search for the casting codes.(The number I thought was it starts with 42 I believe. Ill look when I get off work). I tried researching the casting codes online and none match up with mine. I did find the stamp behind the alternator and the stamp reads M05082VP. Can any one help me?
Thanks in advance

the VP code has only one application....a 1969 TRUCK 350 ci 215 hp 2bbl L-65 engine with a manual transmission.
You will find that ALL Chevy small blocks become "corvette" engines when they are sold.

"....You will find that ALL Chevy small blocks become "corvette" engines when they are sold...."
Ain't that the truth.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

I have tried to explain several times to people that their 2bbl, crummy head, low compression engine
was NOT a Corvette engine....and they wanted it argue that it was.....THEN Chevy put such an engine
in the 82 corvettes to make me look bad

Sorry, kinda new to all of this. All I knew about that engine was that that whoever had the truck before me, used it for some sort of racing. And whoever had it before me swapped the Manual transmission to an Automatic (came with a Road Demon carb on it. Took that off and just went with a standard carb. I had some trouble with the engine flooding while going up and down hills) I kinda figured it wasn't really a "Corvette Engine" That's just what ever one had been telling me. I take it this is a pretty common engine then?

Back in the day, every guy had a "Corvette" engine in his car, but if that were true there would have been no Corvettes left on the roads, all of them would be sitting engineless in junkyards ! However, I bet every Chevy dealer in the USA did a landslide business selling those cool valve covers for $ 17.00 a pair.

I have a set bought in 1969 for $10 each.......brand new at the dealer.
BUT think about all the Corvette ignition shields that were removed and tossed.......and I used to buy complete fuel injection units for either $75 or $100 each if they were complete minus air cleaner....and resell them in Calif for $200....wow, was I ever a smart businessman!!!!
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
