327 Rebuild Help
Ok im new to this forum but have been told its a great place from some friends. I am purchasing a large journal 327 small block for 35 dollars every thing there and in good shape but im looking for about 300 to 500 hp to move my 1968 Datsun 510 down the track and as a daily driver. I would like a mean cam and at least 10-1 compression so if you have a setup that runs good for you post it if you have any tips or anything for me please feel free to post them. Thank You For You Future Help!!!

There is a huge difference in building a 300 hp engine and a 500 hp engine. Anything above 375 hp and you will not have a daily driver. You can drop in a 350 crank and probably raise the hp levels to around 425. But to reach the mythical 500 hp level and keep a 327 streetable, you will have to spray it which means some serious money for parts and machining.

Welcome to CHR - it is a great place for information and there's a lot of real deep hot rod talent here. We can also be pretty direct and ask tough questions - not to insult or hurt your feelings, but to help you define your project and help you get there and have some fun while you're at it!
I'm sure you're aware that the Datsun 510 V8 swap is not one of the easier transplants. Check out this web site and look carefully at the fit - Whacky Engine Swaps, Part II: Datzilla - Motor Trend Blog
Before you start yanking wrenches take some time to build a realistic budget. If this is your first effort, I can tell you that you will need a lot of help in terms of preparing the Datsun. The car was designed around a four cylinder and the V8 is not only heavier but it is physically a lot larger and there no easy way to get rid of the heat that the 327 will generate. To be successful, you'll literally have to build a custom chassis and drive train to set the 510 on.
As to the engine, search some of the threads here - we have this thrash several times a year re; building a SBC. I agree 100% with Lynn in terms of horsepower. 300 in a Datsun 510 would be killer - 500 horsepower is unrealistic unless you have a budget of $10,000 for the engine alone. Unless you have or work at a machine shop you will need to have a lot of the work done and the meter runs when you engage a quality shop. Good luck on this one and again, welcome to CHR!

Well thanks for the links i book marked them that datsun is really clean looking, but i have already strengthened the chassis and altered the firewall to allow enough room to fit the 327 with a moc up motor and stiffened the front suspension and im doing a carbureted car so i dont have the computer controller madness. But im not sure about the rear axle i still have the stock dif in it and im pretty sure it will explode on the first drive to town any ideas there? oh and im going to have a radiator custom made to be 14 inch high and 20 inches wide and a triple core is that really necessary. Thanks For The Help!
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
