Confused...1 piece rear main seal or 2 piece
I have a 383 stroker. I am on deployment in A-stan right now and am just trying to figure out if i have a 1 piece rear main seal or 2 piece.
How do i figure out what i have ?? i belive i have a late (1985+) block but am not sure. all i have to go off right now is some pics on facebook i have. I have not seen my car about 7 months...but i will be home soon to start working on her again!

By Looking at the Lifter valley I would say that's a pre-1987 2-Piece seal block .Wisdom is acquired by experience, not just by age

One piece oil seal looks like this..yours has the two piece seal.

1 pc or 2 pc RMS
Looks like a 2pc going by counterweight on crank. My 1pc RMS flange is circular and does not have a counterweight. Flywheels / flexplates won't interchange between either engine. Casting number will easily ID the block. Also it is internally or externally balanced. Plus the dipstick is on the LH side, not RH sideLast edited by mgtstumpy; 01-12-2012 at 03:02 AM.
