    350 vortec alternator wiring to a c10

     



    Just put a complete 350 vortec in my 82 c10 I need help on how to wire the alternator the new one has a 4 prong plug and the old one is a 2 prong thanks for your help

    a one wire delco alt would be the best way to go. the 4 pins in the reg on the later alt may be for the ecm . need make and part number of alt and i can tell you where the wires go

    I'm not sure on the part number it's a stock alternator for a 97 Chevy truck

    Dl 1650 6 5 is the autozone part number

    Short answer: You only use two of the wires....I wouldnt consider this one resource "gospel" just because its on the net... You should surf around for info and absorb all the info you can find before deciding how to proceed.

    If you goto a auto parts store that bench test alternators, they can tell you what the four wires goto.....thats what I do anyway

    The auto stores around here hire any body with a pulse they don't know squat lol

    Ok I bought one Of the adaptor harness and it's a different 4 prong then my alternator is

    Thanks I think that will help do u know which wire gets the resistor ? And where can i find one and what size resistor I need

    Didn't your 82 come w/an HEI dist in it.
    If so no resistor wire needed & regardless the dist wire would run from the ignition switch & wouldn't have one in it unless it had a point dist which it shouldn't from the factory.
    If you're running a point dist you would need to put a ballast resistor in the wire running to the dist.

    From what I been reading if u don't have a light in the dash for the alternator u need to have a resistor on one of the wires coming out of the alternator mine doesn't have the light it has the gauges so from what I have been reading I will need a resistor on one of the 2 wires off the alternator
