Might sound like a diesel (Ping), unless you have loud exhaust then it might not be noticable til it's tooooo late.

What kind/size of pistons does it have. Dish / flat top / Dome ....standard bore Oversize?

350 chevy with flat tops and two valve reliefs and .025 deck height is roughly 10.5:1 if you are using a .039 gasket. Now your 278 cam will bleed off a little of that compression but using 92 octane and 38 degrees total timing should be fine.
Objects in my rear view mirror are a good thing unless,.... they have red and blue lights flashing.
