Any Nitrous SBC experts here?
Hi guys. Been searching for a while before i registered. Great site. Lots of good info. I'm really looking for a page with different combinations for different set up's and HP numbers.
I'm going to be building a nitrous SB. I have a good 350 4 bolt main long block to start with. My intentions are pretty set. I wanna run mid to low 12's on motor and spray a 200-250 shot.
I'm real interested in finding out more about Nitrous cams and pistons. How much do they acually help the Nitrous over standard parts? where can i find out wich ones work best? Can I run as strong on the motor with the Nitrous cam/pistons?
My concern is having a 13 seconed car on the motor and a crazy 10.0 car on a 200-250 shot.
I realize there alot of things that affect this question but this is just a start. The car in question would be a '85 Monte aprox. 3700# w/driver, 350 trans w/brake and NOS friendly Converter(thats another discussion). 3.55 - 3.73gears.
What do you guys think?1999 Z28 Convertible

Hey Tweekd;
Welcome aboard. As for your querry, taking into consideration that you have a heavy vehicle, I suggest building a stroker 383 or a 406 sbc. Go all fordged bottom end etc etc. If you look up the Edelbrock Performer RPM matched set up, it should take the car into the high 12's. With a 225 shot, you would take off another 1.5-2 seconds.
Good luckObjects in my rear view mirror are a good thing unless,.... they have red and blue lights flashing.

Hey thanks for the help. I have a 355 now with Forged pistons and the Edlebrock Performer intake/cam. I run stock GM Vortech heads and a Holley 650. The motor runs real strong for a simple street car. Decent gas mileage and clean idle. With a built TH-350 and 2800 stall. 7.5 inch with 3.73's it runs 12.70's 12.80's on motor with good gas and lots of timing. I spray a 150 plate shot and manage 11.60's 11.70's @ 118-119 mph. I would have no problem upgrading the fuel suply and moving on two a fogger 250 but I want to redo the motor to be pretty nuts without the juice.
I relize the car is heavy wich I believe is Chevy Hotroding's biggest downfall. All the good cars are tanks. Anyway....
After thinking it out I'm gonna need around 400HP to run low 12's. I think you are on target with the 383/400 idea. With enough compression and the right cam/intake and and head work I'm sure 400HP is obtainable.
Is there a place I can go to find out what parts work best for different combintaions?
Whats the difference between the 383 and 400? I know the 383 uses the 400 crank and maby longer rods. How does the 400 work? I would like start checking prices.
Thanks again1999 Z28 Convertible
