Installing TH400
First time I've installed a tranny. Bought a rebuilt installed it in the truck then poured 4 quarts of fluid in it of which about 1 quart leaked out the tail shaft. Is this normal did I over fill it or has the rebuilder done something wrong?

Did you have the engine running at the time? Do you have the drive shaft installed?"PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

You need to have it running to circulate the fluid in the trans & converter as you add fluid."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

I like to have the rear end up on jackstands so I can run the trans thru the gears (& reverse) to make sure the fluid is everywhere it needs to be. I also recheck it after it has a few miles on it."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

The fluid probably came out of the vent on top rear of tranny and not out of the tail shaft. That is if you had the drive shaft in it ?

If you had the drive shaft in and it was leaking out around the yoke you may need to replace the seal. If the drive shaft was in and not connected to rear you could have opened the seal enough to leak.Charlie
