roller rocker noise
Hi guys
Fitted some full roller rockers on my new heads,is it normal for them to be a bit noisy
when the engine warms up? Hot oil pressure is 25lbs at idle.
They are hydraulic lifters and flat tappet cam.
I have searched the web and get varying answers. Yes they are no name rockers and
they are from skip white
The pressed rockers were really quiet, only changed heads and rockers, cam, lifters
were left as they were!
Thanks again

My experience says roller rockers are noisier compared to the stamped/pressed, but certainly not objectionable. Consider the reason that this is normal more parts. I would not be concerned be sure you have the lifers adjusted correctly.
I know some like to do a running adjustment with hydraulic lifers. However with roller rockers I personally prefer to pull the plugs and do that static.
Happy motoringI have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

Dave - you were told by me 2x as well as others on the Hotrodders.com site - they tick. If real loud, the preloads were set wrong. You chose to NOT understand my explanation as to how I set them as well. Pat M and others here helped me to work through my problem early this summer. But, yes, they tick. If you want to, do a search for my post hereDave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

I have set them 3 times now and they still tick, so many people on the
web say they are as quiet as their stamped counterparts you cant help worrying that
youve done something wrong!
Some have suggested thicker oil, that didnt make any difference either.
Looks like im going to have to live with the ticking and accept this is normal.
Dave when I posted this question on hotrodder 2 people said roller rockers
are a little noisy and 3 said theirs were as quiet as the stamped ones!
But I do appreciate peoples help
Thanks againLast edited by dave350v8; 09-07-2012 at 10:09 PM.

Just consider that you paid extra for that mild "tick", and if anyone asks why your engine makes that noise just say, "Oh, that's the roller rockers! Sounds cool, doesn't it?"Roger

Now thats a good idea! You cant help worrying though.Ive been in engineering all my life and any ticking or noise usually
indicates excessive clearances, thanks for the reassurance Roger.
Thanks pepi, I think having more moving parts seems to contribute to having more noise like you
have said!
Thanks againLast edited by dave350v8; 09-07-2012 at 10:17 PM.

There is a sign on the wall in my data center it reads. " Trust but Verify " Seeking different resources and references is a very smart way to fly.
I've seen the post that say they have roller rockers that are noise free, after laughing two things come to mind. A they were told they had roller rockers and never had the valve covers off or B just full of it, either way some do not know what they are talking about.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

Dave,
I know exactly what you mean, but for each additional part there's some small tolerance in the machining process so it makes sense that as we add moving parts we may hear some new "ticks". If you've adjusted them right (maybe several times now??) and you're confident that your adjustment process is correct then I'd say it's time to drive it! I like the sign Pepi quoted, 'Trust but Verify', and it sounds like you're there!
Of course, Dave S' approach (headers open) works too - as a kid I remember being told, "Just turn the radio up and quit worrying with it!!"Roger

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
