Hiya Dave n all,
Yeah, I did do the calibration thing already in fact I got 2 kits. Took me 2 months to find that perfect tweak. And the dyno confirmed my work. However, if it's the pump it's no sweat to check the thing. You can take the air horn off with the rest still bolted to the car. What's just puzzling me is I never had carb problems with the carb as new as it is. But then again I never had a carb that can be attacked by gasoline.
I figured out partially what may be wrong as well. The plug porcelains are glazed apparently with a conductive coating stemming for overheating by rapid acceleration. So, is there any such plug I can get that's drag race proof? Or are they just throw aways?Got lots of chrome,
It's good for show,
But when I hit the gas,
The pig won't go!

While I'm changing plugs and rebuilding the carb, I was wanting to ask about the crankcase ventilation hose. Should I leave it or just use two breathers on the valve covers? I'm trying to eek out every bit of speed possible. Should I try to make the Holley work again? It's a 600 CFM like the Edelbrock but having changed the pump volume it suffered no lag off the line. I'm just confused about the tune. I did have it tweaked but something's wrong since the last build. What jets and power valve should I use. I did change the secondary spring so transition is good. but last time it had absolutely no power so...
Mechanical secondaries or vacuum secondaries? take the crankcase ventilation off? What fuel pressure? What plugs will hold up to drag racing?Got lots of chrome,

OK everyone was right!
I pulled the carb and found that the little teeny weenie check ball for the accelerator pump wasn't there. The weight was but no ball. Rebuilt the carb with the ball and now the thing has a new personality. No lean spot, no pop in the intake and I can put the timing where I want. Funny though, I never took out the old one, wonder where it went?
I'm so happy now I could kiss a moose on the lips! Thanks for the point in the right direction everyone.Got lots of chrome,
