what engine do I have?
Hi gang, I bought a chevy powered T bucket. The previous owner does not know anything about the engine and neither to I! It has the old three bolt starter bell housing and the title states the car was built in 1972. The engine block serial # is F1001D. Can anyone help me with this? THANKS!

From the front of the motor, look right and down the side of the distributor, on the back lip of the block. There will be a number that looks like this 3703524 record and check out one of these links that will get you started.

The heads the second piece of the puzzel, for me the best way to find out what's going on there is to remove the valve cover and look at the casting number record that and look in these links

The stamped number tells us it was a Flint built engine assembled on Oct 1st. and the D says it was a 283 2bbl with a Powerglide used in 58-59-60 Chevrolet passenger cars. Of course the heads could have been swapped in the past. You will need to follow the instructions above to get the casting numbers and dates off of them.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
