I need new headers for my chevy 400 small block and have manual rack and pinion steer
Just bought a 1969 camaro with a 406 and headers that need to be replaced. They've been repaired or modified before and have bad spots with small holes. I get the feeling they were cut and modified to reach around the manual rack and pinion steering arm. Does anybody know of a header that has worked without modification? I'm new to this type of hot rod and can use all the help I can get

Probably a lot of choices, but I had a couple Sandersons in the past that never gave me trouble, and I have them on my '32 now. Sanderson Street Rod HeadersNick

In my opinion, if you're going to use shortys, you might just as well use the stock cast iron logs and keep cost down. If your goal is to make power, recommend long tube, equal length, minimum 3/8" flange thickness so they won't warp up like a potato chip from the heat and spit out the gasket (I wish someone made a 1/2" flange), minimum 16 guage tube thickness, prefer 14 gauge to limit "tinnyness sound", prefer minimum 1 3/4" tube diameter on 383, 400 SBC. Prefer tuned length, but cost is out of sight unless you build them yourself from scratch. Here's a start.....

i built custom headers around 065 wall for smaller tube up to 1 5/8 up to 2 inch and 3/8 cold roll header flanges . all bigger tube 2 1/8 to 2 3/8 was much thinner around 18. sure it would not be hard to find someone to build some if he wants headers with a thicker wallIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
