need to knows for my build
I got a set of AFR 195 heads for my 355ci what would be the best camshaft to run with those heads? I would like it to be lumpy and mean... Also, how hard is it to switch a TBI to a carb?

Depends on whether you want a cam that will work well with your engine, or just want something that sounds kewl.....Would need a lot more information about the rest of the engine before someone could confidently suggest a cam.... As for the TBI to carb, how about a bit more information, like what kind and year of car are you building???Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

As for the TBI, it depends upon whether the computer controls the timing, if so, you may need a stand - alone distributor. If you still have everything for the TBI, you could be better off having the chip re- mapped for the new parts.
You cam query is a common question, you can search the archives and find piles of old threads on the subject.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

you will have to go carb no GM TBI stock from a truck will work with a big cam or any cam more stock cam .i have built tbi 355s and they had stock cams or custom very small roller cams so the map will work. the chip will not help much in this its the map that will go nuts with low vacuum and idle will be very poor .some guys say they made it work? i know many that could notLast edited by pat mccarthy; 06-06-2013 at 12:50 AM.

I am putting it into a 1993 gmc sierra regualar cab long box 2wd. It currently has a 305 in it and its gutless. I got a 350ci tbi out of a 1994 pickup. The block is at the machine shop right now getting bored out to a 355ci. I am hoping to be around the 400 hp range due to that i know that the computer will not be able to handle that and the 2 injectors wont be able to keep up with my AFR 195 heads. So i would like to know what cam will go best with that motor in my truck im looking for something lumpy to run in it. On top of that i was thinking that switching to a carb is probably my best bet right? As well, I have an edlebrock fuel system to run with it.

700r4 or similar trans family transmission will need a geometry corrector for the TV cable.
Holley Edelbrock Qjet etc it is a must have item. Each is brand-specific.
