350 Small Block & Accel Plugs?

    Hey All...
Running a crate 350 and changed original Champion plugs to Accel Shorty plugs.
2 Questions... Gap suggestions would be what?
Not sure if I just got some poor "motion lotion" or if the .40 I copied from the Champions is just incorrect.
Seems to be a lot less throttle response and a little pukey now.
Any thoughts would be appreciated including another brand if the Accel's are known to have any issues.
    Thx,
    Red 32

I, personally, would not run anything from Accel as I've had nothing but bad luck with their coils and wires. Two Super coils that open when they got hot and Super Stock wire that had more than 1k resistance per wire. I've never run their shorty plugs, but have heard horror stories about them, I just changed to E3's in my 76 Vette, but I don't have enough run time on it to give a fair evaluation though the throttle response is good and it runs strong.

I also wouldn't run anything accel in my rides. For plugs I'm partial to NGK or Bosch. Which ignition system are you using?

.040" is probably to large for a point system, .045 is better for a HEI type...

    Thanks All...
Mallory HEI for the fire and it just figures that I'd read and read and make an uninformed decision. Should have come here first for sure.
Thanks for the info guys so... .045 it is and the E3's were my second choice but none in stock here in the north TX sticks!

Most of the hi-performance Chevy guys I know run NKG's. I may try them at some point, but AC's are doing the job for me at the present time. I have also had good luck with Autolite plugs in the past.

NGK or MOTORCRAFT is the only brand I'll use.

Used a ton of Autolite 25 and 26 - My father literally bought 100 sets in a mixed lot of 25 and 26s at an auction (that's 800 plugs!!) for a dime a piece! eighty bucks and they were all new in the box - part of a bankruptcy sale - also bought a couple cases of Fram PH30 filters for .25 apiece and about a dozen cases of Havoline 10-30 for a dime a quart (remember the cans that you pushed a sharp spout in?). It was fun! We used them for a looooonggggggg time! No problems ever with the plugs (nor the oil or the filters). Did a lot of five dollar oil changes for friends and family!!
