Thumbs up Welcome to CHR ...

use the search feature at the bottom of each section and see what you find . and just keep reading .....

And my opinion is : " find your self another engine ( a 350 ) to start rebuilding and you can do a switch later ,
so you can keep driving her while learning. " < maybe some of the other members have an opinion .

have any pixs ? of her? .....
    "Whad'ya want for nuth'N, ..............aaa,rrrrrubber biscuit... ?"

"bad spellers of the word untie ! "

If your wondering how I'm doing I'm > " I'm still pick'N up the shinny stuff and passing open windows "

actually if you wanna make it a show truck with alot of get up and go you will prob need to find another vehicle in its entirety for the fact that you will need to do a complete restore inside and out on your 69.. this means takein it all the way to the frame and sanding and painting every little thing btw dont forget chrome makes it go faster lmao have fun man and gl
Its not my fualt you where 2 seconds slower...!!!!

Just like tech said it....I would never *waste* my money on a 305. The blocks were not meant to be bored and to stroke it is a waste when you can have more inches. The 383 or 406 is a much better option. And to all those who would like to say that the 305 is gonna save you money on gas...I might like to say that its easier to walk all day than sprint, if you get my idea. Lugging that piece of American iron around all day will work it harder and its just likely to burn as much fuel as the larger ones. The big ones will give you more fun in the end anyway, the option to go FAST, a word the 305 never understood. Just my opinion though, decent stockers, not great rods.

Stock 305s torque is best at 250 in the efi versions even. Decent 383s torque?? 450 quite attainable. I think it was even Hot Rod that took a gm crate 383 and put it over 500 ft lbs with a couple of changes.

I've been happy with a 305 but not thrilled. It's as dependable as any Chevy for average driving.
Like the guys said though it's not a good engine to rebuild for a hot rod. I wouldn't be suprised if a stock 350 got better mileage in your truck than the 305. It wouldn't have to work as hard. It'll give you a better power to weight ratio.
If you want to go fast though go with the 383.
I don't believe in giving any priority to MPG or the price of gas untill you get it on the road. You can't get performance from a gas miser engine. If you're worried about what it'll cost to drive it then rebuild a stock 350.
I'd rather scrounge for gas money than compromise on performance.
BTW It's a good idea to check in and say thank you every few days.

    Welcome to CHR
By now you have read the informative insights of the previous
writers and hopefully had a chance to view and use the search
feature. Keep an open mind in your quest for knowledge from
the many "been there - done that" members. Lastly.. enjoy your stay and take comfort in the good natured ribbing that occurs.
    Good luck and happy rotations.

    THANK YOU

thank you to everyone that has replied. i think i am just going to start making her pretty for right now. just small things like new mirrors, fix the interior etc. she runs great at the moment so im not going to try to mess with anything im not sure about. but i might be coming across some extra money so i would like to buy a block and heads and learn from the ground up. im just not sure sure what block to get. 350, 383, 400 small. if u no of a good reason to get either one, (besides that all are better than a 305!!!) please explain if u could. thank you again for everything and your time.

Since your 19 years old right now, I say save your money and make her nice looking for now and just use the engine that's in it until it blows up (might as well instead of wasting it and throwing it out) and then when it blow's, throw in a 350 in there. If you don't know a lot or nothing about car's or nothing I recommend a community college and taking an auto tech class for a while because it will teach you a lot. You can still ask all questions here and most of us will help you but a class would be really good, or if you know someone that own's a shop or works on car's a lot then ask them if you can watch and be a little slave for them and you will learn a lot that way. It will take a long time to know most stuff and I don't think you can EVER learn EVERYTHING about car's unless you have tried out and worked on every single car or truck out there.... well unless you like Streets here then you might know everything. hah But yeah man a class is good to go to and you will learn lot's and know what to put in etc. I am still taking auto tech one (almost done) and going to take auto tech two and I have learned a lot in that class. There is still some that I forgot on what and how to do thing's but I will learn again and I still got lot's to learn. Well sorry for going a bit off topic but you were saying how you would like to learn more and have more questions, etc. Also welcome to the boards and good luck on the truck. Get some pic's up if you can.
