is it a new style vortech with a computer?? i would trade my small block and everything i have for it. its just like a 350 minus 2 cylinders. they also make tons of hop-ups for the 4.3 too. you could throw a blower, or even twin turbo and it would still be kick ass on gas!
but you also have that power to weight problem going on. i had a 67 shortbed fleetside and it weighed a friggin ton. before you throw out the idea of the v6, i would look into more first.chris hartsell

Ya, so my actual post didn't show up...and if it does then oh well, but I basically said keep the 4.3 and put some cash into that, and don't go with a 305, you would be better off with a 327 or 350 if you just had to have 8 cylinders. Toss some forced induction on that 4.3 and you will be more than happy. Or some smaller mods, there's lots of potential in those Vortec EFI units, even if you think its just a 6 cylinder.

I'd run a SBC, 327,350 or even a 400
Parts are easyer to find USED, that means CHEAPER than some of the BB stuff. And people will trade for SBC stuff too.

look you said your leavin the import world so dump the 6 cylinders and join the big boys a 350 will work fine all you have to do is through in a cam and some performer heads and youll have a strong 250-275 hp your not lookin at 11s but if you want good mpg and a rumble without breakin the bank thats the way to go
just my two cents
