I do have a 4.000 crank and their are no restrictors in the lifter galleys. I ordered a matching pickup with the pan. Thanks again for the input and I'll advise what happens with the new pan.

I was answering Jerry Claytons question about the restrictors. I did try another pressure gauge and got the same readings. The new pan should be delivered tomorrow, I'll put it on and see what happens.

if the lifter oil galleys had restrictors you would gain oil PSI maybe jerry was talking about restricted in the lifter valley oil drain back that starts at the heads and drains down threw lifter valley i tap heads and welded in bungs for drain back like this... did you weld the oil pickup on the pump and did you check thats your around 3/8to 1/2 from bottom of oil panIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Seems to me like Easterner's trying to tell everyone that he's got a plan in place, has taken steps to get the parts he believes may fix his problem, and has committed to report back with the result once he's tried the new setup unless we've run him off by then....Roger

well yep.. you are wrong ..but any ways i made the point that a restrictor shut down upper valve train oil .it was something Jerry said but wanted for him to under stand that this block is not the same as some that why i asked for sure it was a shp and not a world block or a wheeler block.GM bowtie. oil restrictors may help with oil psi and less upper oil .but has nothing much to do with drain back from the head if them hole s need to be open so oil runs threw the valley and then pan . a restriction that can be at heads then oil is all in heads and can be in lifter valley as well. i do not think thats it .the valley on the SHP block it is cut out much like a bbc so there places were oil would fined it way back in the pan less heads were pluged then it would fill up till to pushrod hole then drain back . the SHP dart block and M do not oil like a stock chevy they have a lifter oiling cross over leave that with a plug out. you would have a big loss of oil to top end . main s still would feed the bottom end. but would never build oil PSI thats in front of block in valley . intake has to come off to check . it is just like the BIG M dart bbc . then there is still plugs 3 under the upper timing gear as well .the front of the engine has to come off as well less you have a two part timming cover and can see the 3 galley plugs. he never said he was pulling intake or timming cover ? yes i seen he did put on a new pickup never said if he welded it .? someone asked if he check it was it 3/8 or 1/2 ? i did see were he used another oil gauge so i did ask. but more to the point i was looking for him to tell me it was a mechanical gauge and not a sender gauge never said what he used so my fault so what have you added to this ?Last edited by pat mccarthy; 07-21-2014 at 03:45 PM.
