First, for the block, GM used the same casting for several different engines.....the more accurate method of identification is to decode the two or three letter combination that is stamped (not cast) on the pad that the passenger side front of the block deck surface...just in front of the head. This tells you year, model of car, horsepower, carburetion (or injection) transmission, smog equipment, etc. For the heads, what is the casting number? That too can be decoded BUT there was never a 262/305 corvette engine in the 75-80 era....there was a lame 305 in 82.

Not sure if my reply went through, so here it is again.
I will check out the block. The head info I got through a Vet site that listed heads by casting numbers. Thanks for the info, I'll get back.
I did not know Mike very well, we exchanged some messages from time to time but from what I understand he was a very good man. I was sad to learn about this
