Stock 400 sbc build
I have a 1987 monte Carlo ss with a stock 400sb in it. Was looking for some advise on a budget build. Want to up the hp and torque and make it a quick street car but also maintain some of its drivability.

How much have you budgeted: time and money?
How much work can you do yourself?
Do you have a shop, tools and equipment?.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

1987 definitely smog era=========I would suggest clean up cylinder bores for new pistons and use aftermarket longer rods plus set of aluminum heads, better manifold for 4 barrel carb, decent exhaust system and moderate camshaft for your driving style------the 400 bore size ( 4.125) does let you use pretty large valves so look for some quality heads-----
Thanks guys! One more trip around the sun completed. Lots of blessings and things to be thankful for (like still being able to type this message!!) Here's to us "over 70 guys.." Glenn
