    Rear end questions

What do these numbers mean. They are on a 10 bolt.

Those are casting numbers, identifying the foundry location and approximate date that the housing was cast. All of the critical information about your rear gears would be on a sheet metal tag, nominal 1/2" x 3" held in place under one of the bolts securing the gears/cover.

That's true for some rear ends Roger provided you're lucky enough for the tag to still be there.

On a lot of the GM and Mopar rear ends the gear ratio and application data is stamped on one of the axle tubes.....in very small font and usually a PIA to find and read.

Thanks for that, Mike. I've not run into the info being stamped on an axle tube, but it makes better sense than the tags which were rarely put back on once the bolts were out. It would indeed be a PIA to find on an old, road weary rear end, I would think.
