Back in the day I ran a .040 over 283 with stock bottom end and Power Pack heads with a Duntov cam and 327 valve springs. There were lots of 4" bored 301's around then, but I cheapened out on my build 'cause my machinist had a set of pistons someone reneged on, and sold 'em to me cheap.
The little thing would bury an 8 grand tach on every shift, and it took some serious HP to beat it, but I wore it out in about 5000 miles. Bores, crank, cam, everything was worn past any sensible limits in one summer! 'Course, it was right to the floor for most of the 5000 miles.

its 327's with 283's, if you use 283 with a 327 crank its not such a good combo, 327 with a 283 crank =
s the high winding 301 302's. other way around is a 307 and well we all know.
[QUOTE=SBC] i have heard more than a few mechanics rave about 283s with a 327 crank. [QUOTE]
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
