HEI vs. Distributor
i'm currently running a HEI with an accel coil and module and it seems to work pretty but i have a space problem...sometimes when i get on it my fire wall knocks my cap back...its pretty tight to the fire wall...i was thinking about running a distributor but i was told a hei will work beter and give u a beter spark....and i was told points are a pain in the ass and u always have to dick with them and i'd be better off with a hei ... so i'm deciding weather to knock the firewall a bit more or run distributor....any ideas..

If your mounts are good, there's always the old tie down on the left side of the motor to limit it's travel. Definitely stick with the HEI, much more trouble free and good spark for a cruizer.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

How 'bout switching to a Mallory unilite or some other brand. You could always use the point distributor, and convert it to electronic ignition, those conversion kits aren't really that expensive.Mike Casella

I went with A breakerless electronic ignition kit. Mallory does have the unilite kit. and pertronix has there conversion. Out of these three I named off Pertronix is the only conversion that uses the full 12V to the Coil. The other two use A Ballast resister. You can get A complete mallory distibutor for your ride "Billet" from Summit for not a lot of money (Provided your car is not A mech. tach drive) And if that is the case I have heard that the magnetic breakerless is better than there Unilite.

Knocking
If your motor mount's were mushy the motor could slide back and hit the firewall every time you punched it out of the hole. That's the first thing I would check. If the H.E.I. is working fine why waste your money.Check your transmision moun'ts too they usually all wear out together.Good Luck
