Help- crank tol. Im at .003 is this too lose
Heres the deal- im making a 383 , its my second motor, the 1st 383 got a line bore so it was a perfect fit, but that was a longggggg time ago, and my memory is going on every step.
This new 383 motor is good and ready to put together- everything seems ok up to the crank. I got the block align honed- I put to crank in / plasticgage then the caps torqued 'em pulled them off and found out every reading is .003".
I think .0015 is what it suppose to be, at .003 am I too lose?????
Also, this is a 4 bolt main, never done one of those yet, whats the bolt pattern & torque??? some tell me its 70 for inner- 45 outter...... # keep changing.
thanx

If your excessive clearance is because of the aftermkt crank, and your journals are otherwise ok. You can get .0005-.001-.002" undersize rod and main bearings in the "P" series bearings.
Also the spec Streets quoted for piston clearance only works on certain types of Forged pistons. Each manufacturer has his own piston spec.
