    93 Vette Temp

My 93 LT-1 (115,000 miles) Vette runs at about 225 degrees on hot days in traffic. It's pretty stock except for cat-back and Hypertech chip. It's got a Hypertech 160 degree thermostat. The system has been flushed, and the radiator is clean.

I realize that once the stat is open, it's open, so with these miles, I'm thinking that the water pump is getting a little long in the tooth - although it doesn't leak.

I seem to remember that the second electric fan doesn't cut in until 225, but I'd like it to run cooler.

    Thoughts?

YOU'RE ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE A HIGH TEMP WITH A VETTE DUE TO THE SMALL ENGINE COMPARTMENT.. 195-210 IS ABOUT THE BEST IVE EXPERIENCED ON MY 94 HOWEVER IF YOU ARE REALLY WORRIED ABOUT IT TRY A SPRAY COAT OF HEAT SHIELD ON YOUR MANIFOLD AND A LOWER SET TEMP ON THE FAN.. THE SPRAY COATING WONT LAST FOR LONG BUT IT HELPS.

    Morning,
The temps your seeing are pretty much normal. Second fan is supposed to kick in at 220. You can add additives to your coolant like wetter water and such. I've heard they help some. Best thing is to wire a switch to your aux fan so you can turn it on earlier if your worried. Also I would change the thermostat to around 180. Keeps the coolant in the radiator a little longer to let it cool by slowing down the flow. Make sure you have no trash between the the A/C condensor and rad., being a bottom feeder they tend to pick up a lot of trash in that area. The temps that these run at are scarry but that's the way GM designed them. For more info check out Corvette Forum lots of great info there like here.

I mah jump the fan switch.

Here's the bad deal though. Last summer, the optispark (whose idea was that anyhog) shot craps. I didn't have time to replace it myself, so I asked the local Chebby shop to replace it, AND the water pump. They said it was a good idea, considering the mileage . . . then they forgot the water pump. "Oh, did you ask us to do that?"

I went back and read my manual again, checked a couple of on-line sites, and the temp isn't really out there.
