oil pressure problem
Yeah, i know there's lots of topics about this on here, but i need help with my specific problem. Here's the story:
When i first got my car, it was losing a lot of antifreeze and we thought it was the head gasket. We took the heads off, replaced the gaskets and had the heads taken to a machine shop to be checked and decked. The heads came back clean, shaved and supposedly free of cracks. After putting the heads back on and the engine back together, the car was still running the same....along with a valve tap that had never happened before the heads were taken off.
We took the heads off again....and after close speculation, we found a crack in the combustion chamber for the #5 cylinder.
We replaced the heads with new heads and the engine has been back together for a week or so. The loss of coolant and engine running hot problems had been resolved. The valves didn't tap at first but just started. I don't have my oil pressure gauge hooked up because i'm rewiring everything but, i took my valve covers off. Every rocker on the passenger side is pumping out oil, the back four rockers on the drivers side are pumping oil, the front four are not and thats where the chatter is coming from. Someone try to shed some light on my problem... Thanks-Bob

small block chevys some times have a problem oiling the front of the engine, did you rebuild the engine? or is it stock? the oil pump might be giving up a little and not pushing as much oil as it should to pump up the front of the lifters on the #1 and #3, or you got some crud blocking the push rods and no oil can make it up them. are the lifters getting oil? or not. i hope some of this helps you out.

Thank you Roger. .
