Hey guys, I need some help. I have a 1980 RS Camaro with a 305cid engine. I rebuilt the bottom end last year, new pistons/ rings, bearings, the works, but I did not rebuild the heads (no money). SO I drove it all year, I have about 1000 miles on the engine and the thing started smoking really bed, and I knew the valves were really bad so I picked up a set of rebuilt heads from a shop I have used before with out any problems. So this wek end I put the engine back together.
So here is my delema, after putting is all back to gether and getting it running I took it out for a ride and at high RPMs it is still smoking, at idle it will not smoke or evey light, is seams like it comes in spirts at idle. When you rev it up it blow smoke bad. It looks like it is a whiteish blue smoke. I thought may be the intake gasket moved or wasn't sealed, so I pulled the intake off and replaced it, but it is still doing it. And it is comming from both sides, I have a true dual exhaust so I can tell it is comming from both banks.
So here I am and I am at a loss, I am going do a compression check in a while when it cools down a little. But other than that what else is there I can do, I am very frustraterd and at a loss.

Sounds like your exhaust is full of residual oil thats been pumped in from the old worn heads. Give it a good drive around for a while to burn the oil out. Oh yeah I"d better ask does the exhaust have cats on it ?

This may be worth a try. Check your PCV valve. If it sticks open it will suck oil into the intake and burn. southerner could be right as well. I have changed motors from a oil burner to a new motor and had to get things heated up real well to burn out the pipes and mufflers.

I thought this was about a Cheech and Chong movie.
A bad modulator valve will allow the engine to suck tranny fluid into the engine. Pull the vacum line from the valve to see if there's any fluid in it.

Did you check the vacum line for fluid yet? How about the compression test that Streets suggested? You said you didn't do the heads so it could be leaking by the valve seals. That won't show up in a compression test.

OK zort86.. by now it has cooled down, right? What have you done with the advice that was given by these gents? Let us know your progress. Don't disappear, give us a follow up.
