The engine is the same as thousands of 350's. I would use the 305 heads in this situation. ONLY, because they will have no-lead compatible seats, where the 350 heads would cost you well over $300.00 just to get usable. I very seldom use the 305's because the port "window" is smaller and you lose top end. You will find your S-truck to be a budget tire fryer with the 305 heads. A re-ring type engine kit, HD timing set, new oil pump and a mild hydraulic cam and lifters. Budget, power and reliable. What more could you want?

yea thats what i was thinking but i didnt even think about lead or unleaded fuel, with the 305 heads, could i just have them ported to gain some power and maybe just re seated without replacing anything?

also the block seems pretty fresh and would still only be a temp engine pretty much, what about just the real basics like oil pump and timing set and a cam made for the block/head combo and a after market manifold and 4 bbl 600cfm
with no emisions and a distributor i have thats got the coil in it,
and i can find some stock type exuast manifolds.

any idea what kinda power id be looking at for this? with a th350 behind it..

heres a pic of the dist i have

ok i follow up to 58cc heads and tha comp ration but everything else is a bit greek to me bro, and since that being so why dont you tell me how i CAN run pump gas with the setup, even if i gotta run 92 with a quart of oct boost per 5gal its fine, wont be a daily driver,
but seriously lemme know your side of this bro,

    thanks guys for the help

Techinspector knows a lot more than i do but, Me and several of my buddies run as high as 11:1 on pump gas, high test that is and have no detonation problems, im about 11.2:1 and i have only run high test for 2 years now not a problem, however i wouldnt push the situation, put the 305 heads on and be happy, you will have great bottom end but dont expect it to rev to the moon cause it aint gonna happen, one of my friends has a S-10, 350, 305 heads, very cheap rebuild kit, runs high 14s, its very possible to do this, check out powerhouse engine kits for a cheap rebuild kit, 661-861-0167, good luck

882 heads are notorious for being cracked!! Have them checked. As for the compression ratio with the 305 heads. In real life, Very, very, few factory chevy 350 blocks come close to pistons .020" down in the block. When I was in the machine shop business, the average was somewhere around .035" . That and a set of Re-ring type gaskets and you just may just touch 10-1 compression. This motor in a light body with a mild cam will run just fine on mid-grade gasolines. Now remember the only reason I reccommended the 305 heads was your limited budget. You will find that the 882's (if not cracked) will need a lot of guide and mill work. Just remember Horsepower costs money, how fast do you wanna go?
