Yep, WD-40 will cause rust problems if left on anything for very long. It seems to attract moisture rather than repel it. Is good for lubricateing periodically but not for storage. Used it on many crankshafts on a rack after polishing and they all rusted in time and had to be redone. Light oil is better for that long time storage or a spray type moly lube.

....well, my engine is out in the garage right now soaking in a 50/50 combination mix of Diesel fuel and Marvel's Mystery Oil. I'm going to let the one bank of cylenders soak for a month and then rotate the engine on the stand and let the other side soak for a month. THANKS AGAIN & I'll let you know what happens when I fire it up. .... Bill....

    UPDATE!!!

...ok, the motor has been soaking in a combination of Marvel's Mystery oil, Transmission Fluid and Diesel Fuel for 6 months {2 months on one side, 5 on the other}. I'm headed out to the garage to take the heads off now. I read somewhere that when you take off aluminum heads you should loosen the bolts from the outside in. Is this right??? Anything else that I should look for??? Thanks Everyone! Bill

I rescued my Nova from a barn after sitting 15 years, I removed the valve covers poured marvel mystery down the pushrods and covered the rockerarms. I also removed the plugs and sprayed free all oil in all the holes and let it soak over night, the next day I poured more marvel into the lifter valleys put the valve covers back on. Dont forget to drop your tank and get all that old gas out of it, after pumping clean fuel through the line I hooked it to the old quad and it fired after about a minute and has been running fine. When you turn it over for the first time leave the plugs out, it makes it easier to turn it over. good luck

Thank You Fstrfvo, I'm going to start another thread on this as I have some more questions. But I took the heads off cuz I had a stripped out spark plug hole. I have AFR heads so I called them. They sadi that I could probably get away with fixing it without taking the head off but it'd be better to take the head off. So I did. Now I see rust in the cylender.... hummm, to be continued.... Bill
