283 AND 64 SS IMPALA
I did not realize there were that many 64 ss owners in Club Hot Rod. I had a 64 impala ss 327 250 h.p. 4 speed 40 years ago. yellow. At the time I would like to have had a red 300 4 speed.A couple of years ago i found the car with the build sheet in the car. the 327 was gone and a worn out350 was in its place. No carb. no dist. and all 4 brakes were lockedup . I paid more for the car than I paid for in Jan, 1965. A friend of mine has the matching numbers short block, built two months to the day prior to the build date on the car. That date is perfect. bored 030 plate honed .forged flat top pistons, comp cam. cloyes double roller timing set.Sinclair Impala parts, Danville Va. is where i am buying my restoration parts . they tell me going original with a 64 is not going to have any more value. They have a 59Impala on the cover of their catalogue. The owner there says he went to a lot of expense to do the original 283 and has since wished he had put a new crate motor in it. Ihave a355 race motor that we built for stock car racing over 15 years ago that I never used . Also have a new set of Brodix track 1 heads that Ive had for years and never used .They think the car will have more appealwith that motor.

I have bought parts from Sinclair and they seem to have most anything and ship quick.
It is the original 283, but the main reason I used it is I had a 2yr old 64 SS right after HS with a 283. Its a daily driver anyway.
Cant stand those foreign cars that sound like a fart going down the road. Ya might get a few hp numbers out of them, but no torgue. Foreign is just wrong.
in: finishing all but putting on the intake.
out: dropping a bolt down the lifter valley drain hole.@%**$#@
out: removing oil pan to remove bolt (after beer buzz is gone).
in: its back together again.Don't have a clue and proud of it.
Older is better.

blocks
well my motor bored .125 comes to exactly 301.6 the 1st 302's were 327 blocks with 283 cranks then in 69 they made 302 blocks but only!! in 69............scooter

A 302 in 1967 used a small journal 2 bolt block. In 1968 all small blocks went to large journal cranks During 1968 and 1969 they based the 302 on a 327 large journal with 4 bolt mains. they used 3 different cast #s on those blocks in 68 & 69. These motors were built for chevrolet to compete in the Grand American series of Nascar and to my knowledge were available only in camaro ,however , somewhere in the back of my mind I think it might have been an option in a corvette one year.

Could be! I thought about that when I said it.You are proberly right.Remember going to the Paul Revere 250 under the lights at Daytona in 1969. I remember the cars for that race were equipped with lights.
